Latest "Eruv" controversy in Golders Green

Some people wanted to build a small Eruv in Hendon, they went to D' Roberts who said he won't oppose it

BUT now he puts up this letter.

Looks like he even signed on behalf of R Greenberg

  1. Not what happened but that's immaterial. The main reason behind this letter is an Eruv planned by the Hagers for Woodstock Hamilton area which would include R Roberts's house.

  2. Chaim Halpern molests thirteen women, Greenberg and Roberts have nothing to say. Two years later, the Union still hasn't investigated his conduct, Greenberg and Roberts have nothing to say. Hirshel Hager wants to build a street eruv and these morally bankrupt circus clowns are up like a jack in the box. At least we now have the real pshat in the maamar chazal, "talmid chochom she'ein bo daas neveilo serucho tovo heimenu". Eileh rabonecho NW London.

  3. It's amazing that nobody had heard of this "minheg" when a certain signatory of this letter writer a teshuvo in Sdei Elchonon explaining why an eruv can be constructed in NW London. The "minheg" is apparently whatever suits their purposes, and can be invented and retracted at will.

  4. With no intended disrespect, could someone help clarify why the teshuva advocating London eruvin in Sdei Elchonon makes no note of the existing minhag to treat the city as a reshus horabbim deorayso?

What these rabbis say is false. There is no such thing as a posek that says London is a reshus horabbim de'oirayso and indeed it is not mentioned anywhere by any posek, living or dead. If there is one will they please publish his name in the next issue of the Tribune or Hamodia etc.
If they really believed that it would mean that Rav Ehrentreu and his beis din are machshilei horabbim b'ikrei hadass, something like Yerovom, and yet their Kedassia hechsher consistently uses LBD certified ingredients in their products.

    2. Please explain (without names) which story you are referring to regarding the UOHC allowing a former eishes ish to remarry

  7. Accordingly, most Eruvin in E"Y are also not up to this level of Kashrus!!! As the Badats Eidah Hacharedis's eruv includes Kvish 1, Rechov Bar Ilan, and Geula.... All don't have three walls, probably not even 2 either!!!!!!!

MH has allowed other small Eruvin in the past, without 3 walls.

Sometimes one fails to understand why Rabbis keep changing their minds, just let us know when the UOHC will approve of the current town's Eruv.

  8. Who is MH AND which eruvim have they allowed?

    1. Machzikei Hadass, Manchester.

    2. MH is probably Moshe Halpern, moved to Golders Green several years ago from Stamford Hill.

    3. Which one is it and which eruvim have they previously allowed?

  9. Only one of the great poskim of the previous generation wrote an actual teshuvo on building an eruv in NW London - the Tzitz Eliezer. See his teshuvos 19:17 for details.

  11. Let's just say he knew hilchos eruvin at least as well as Eisner does.

    1. Not fair to blame Eisner. It is Rav Padwa shlit"o who is blocking the eruv.

      Delete
    2. Then Rav Padwa should sign his name in the letter published above. And surely if Rav Greenberg and co don't agree with Rav Padwa, they would not sign a letter saying something they do not believe to be true merely on his say so. Or are they even bigger tools than we had previously believed?

      Delete
    3. Why is it "not fair" to blame Eisner? Whether Padwa has "blocked" there eruv or not, it is Eisner who joined MH in a trek around Brent X and was relishing to find - unsuccessfully - faults with the eruv, it is Eisner who goes around "paskening" the eruv is possul, and it is Eisner - amongst others - who spoke in derogatory terms about Dayan Ch and his ability to pasken on the eruv.

Padwa - subject to future retraction - has merely toed the party line as laid out by his father. He hasn't come out with a psak based on eiruvin.

  12. Dear Hilchos Shabbos Student (11.48). Yes there is a great posek who says London is a reshus horabim de'oraiso, Dayan Yitzchok Weiss zt"l in Minchas Yitzchok 2:114:9 says "...London which is certainly a reshus horabim de'oraiso...".

But no that doesn't mean Dayan Ehrentreu shlit"a is being machshil anyone, he just takes a different view lehalocho, for which there are also sources, from that of Dayan Weiss on this issue.

No disrespect intended but Dayan Weiss when in Manchester paskened that Machzikei Hadass meat is dinoh k'neveilos u'treifos and when in Jerusalem paskened that participating in Israeli elections is worse than the 3 aveiros chamuros (and several other "curious" pesokim).
While there can be no disputing his great breadth of torah knowledge one (admittedly somewhat hesitantly) ventures to suggest that perhaps some of his pesokim may have been prompted by considerations other than strict interpretation of halocho

    2. The UOHC Rabbonim have categorically stated many times that there are serious halachic problems with the GG eruv and indeed do not accept as members or give an aliya to anyone who avails himself of the eruv (unless he is rich, of course)
Now you tell me it is a mochlokes haposkim with ovid k'mar ovid etc?

    3. Who doesn't give aliyos? I am not rich, avail myself of the eruv, and get aliyos.

  13. He was Rav Eliezer Waldenberg zt'l

  14. P Kornbluth - Dayan Weiss zt"l was not addressing the possibility of building an eruv. As Dayan Wertheim said in his shiur on the Manchester eruv, Dayan Weiss was only choshesh for reshus harabbim lemaaaeh if a road had shishim ribo ovrin bo befoel. The fact is that in his other teshuvos on the subject he clearly goes with the Beis Efraim, who requires the shishim ribo to regularly traverse the street itself, which they certainly don't do for any street in NW London . As such there is every reason to believe that Dayan Weiss would allow both the proposed eruv and the existing one. See here for more details:

  15. This letter has nothing to with R Padwa or any other of his crew in N16.
It is a Baal Haboss that lives near Grodz, and would like to keep the pavement on shabbos free of buggies and noise etc, Therefore, he has instigated Reb Roberts to write this letter.....
    How sad....

PS. Perhaps the Eruv should exclude his road or house????

  17. this blog writer obviously has no idea of what goes on in golders green. he says they went to "d roberts". who the hell is d roberts? no doubt he had a look at the signature and it looks a bit like a "d", but anyone with any knowledge of gg knows rabbi roberts' name.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I think he meant Dayan, which what chassidim often call their morei hoiro'oh.

    ReplyDelete
  19. well that again would prove that he has no idea about gg. nobody in the whole of london (including sh) calls rabbi roberts dayan!

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's a shame people still call him rabbi, never mind dayan. This man of supposed "principle", who refused to have anything to do with Dayan E all the years, who would not enter Near Yisroel, has stopped any action that would be perceived as a public condemnation of CH. Forget signing the GD, he wouldn't even allow a letter announcing that the beis din would not take place. And then, to top it all off, he has a wonderful evening basking in CH's presence at the menuvel's simcha last night. The man is an absolute disgrace.
