A senior rabbi in Golders Green, London has been threatened after writing a letter condemning Rabbi Chaim Halpern, an unlicensed therapist who allegedly sexually abused women who came to him for marriage counseling, Behadrei Haredim reports.
Rabbi Gershon Hagar has suffered constant harassment by followers of Halpern since the letter was published, with many of the Halpern followers making threatening phone calls to the Hagar household.
Hagar’s wife has reportedly recived the worst of those threats. Yesterday, unable to take it no more, she reportedly asked her husband to call police – which he did.
When police arrived they experienced the harassment for themselves, and allegedly were on the phone line when a Halpern supporter threatened the Hagars.
"This letter was a hard blow for the Halpern family. Rabbi Hagar heads respected synagogue with more than 100 worshipers…when he did [finally express a position on the case Halpern’s supporters] attacked them harshly. Rabbi Halpern’s supporters can not accept it, it is hard for them,” a source familiar with the case told Behadrei Haredim.
Behadrei Haredim also reports that Kedassia, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations in London, planned on issuing a letter last week supporting Halpern. But Halpern himself allegedly asked Kedassia not to do it because he claimed that it would only exacerbate the fighting and the rift between Kedassia and other communities in the city. Kedassia did not publish the letter.
Halpern’s associates also say that they intend to demand that Halpern's father hold a vote at the study hall to remove Chaim’s brother Moshe, who they blame for mishandling the scandal.
Both of the warring Halpern sides reportedly now hope that Rabbi Chaim Halpern will leave London for a few days for what they say would be for the sake of peace.

Rabbi Hager shlita is a man of sincerity and integrity who puts Kavod Shemayim above all else. Sadly, there are those in GG who are thinking too much about their own Kavod. The disrepect they have shown to Rabbonim and Dayanim in this episode is in itself an incredible bizoyon for which they will have to give din vecheshbon. Yosef Zvi.
