3 Charged With Hate Crimes In Monsey Paintball Attack On Jews


MONSEY NY - Three people in Rockland are under arrest for firing shots with a paintball gun in the Hasidic community in the village of Kaser in Ramapo.

Witnesses tell News 12 a car passed through the neighborhood of Ida and Rita Road about 11:30 p.m. yesterday, and the people inside began firing a paintball gun out the window.

The police report says one man was struck at least two times in the abdomen. The report says the victim and his friend heard someone yell a racial slur as the car drove past them. 

The victims are members of the Haverim community patrol, and they contacted other members of the neighborhood watch group on their portable radios. Police say the other members of the patrol followed the suspects' vehicle and cornered it on Frances Place. They were able to hold them until police arrived.

Police says they arrested Shashi Ramsaroop, 23, of Clarkstown , Lindsey Peaks, 20, of Spring Valley, and Demetrius Torain, 19, of Spring Valley. They are being charged with numerous crimes including assault. All three will be arraigned today.

The victim, Yossi Margeretan, was taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries but has since been released.
