Rumour has it that Rabbi Berland was once a fine and upstanding talmid chochom, but had severe mental health problems and gradually ceased to function normally. His family tried to get him committed to a psychiatric hospital in the hope that with the right medicine he could be brought back to normal. Even those who started the campaign to have criminal charges brought were hoping to use this as a way to get him help. Sadly this has not happened. If you know someone who does crazy things because they have lost their mind, help them get help before they ruin their career and the good name of their family.
A person can only be helped if he acknowledges there is a problem and wants to be helped.
If that person is in denial, adamantly proclaiming there is nothing wrong, he starts believing his own mendacity. Nothing can help this person, not even the his heiligeh zeides.
