A woman who was
sexually abused by a close family friend has spoken out about her betrayal,
first by her abuser and then by the Orthodox Jewish community.
Yehudis Goldsobel,
now 27, from Edgware in north London was sexually assaulted by Menachem Mendel
Levy from the age of 14. Three weeks ago he was jailed for three years.
Now Yehudis has
waived her legal right to anonymity in order to break the silence and speak
about the crimes that took her teenage years from her.
She speaks of the
“horrible, messy process” of battling through the courts, and how she was
ostracised from her community — which she was told was her “punishment from
God” for being “less Orthodox”.
She says of her
decision to go to the police: “It’s not a triumph, it wasn’t something to
celebrate, but it was something I had to do.”
Yehudis has created
a charity, Migdal Emunah, to support victims of abuse in the community.
She
hopes that this, along with telling her story, will encourage others to come
forward and that by raising awareness no one else will have to suffer as she
did.

brave woman - much respect
ReplyDeleteDear Yehudis, do not take one bit of notice from anyone that you feel that looks down at you. You should walk around with your head held up high.
ReplyDeleteits very sad what goes on within the frum world when it comes to abuse, I know many others that have suffered abuse but the amount of abuse the rabbis give them, it sickening.
Very well done for doing what you do, may you continue you going from strength to strength.
So here is how the frum community look at victims,
ReplyDeleteThis girl wakes up one morning and decides to make up a wild story on a man that had abused her and makes a plan to go the police and knowing that she will have to stand up in court, she is a liar, she is known to make up stories bla bla bla.
why why why????
Oh yes, she is an attention seeker.
Why dont u guys and rabbis get real and start opening your eyes, there are sick pedophiles out there destroying lives.
Its about time things change and that we show some sort of support for these poor abused girls, and stop giving theses monsters support.
Does your comment apply to this case? I understood that Mendy Levy did not dispute the allegations, but only disputed how old she was and whether she had reached the age of consent. That's quite different from blaming the victim.
DeleteA person faked and stole close to £100,000 from his former employer in a alleged faked mugging that took place in Ireland. He allegedly paid a man to hit him in the face to make it look real. He then allegedly sold the items for cash.
ReplyDeleteAllegedly the Rabbi's convinced the employer not to press charges that allegedly took place so as not to put a Jew in prison. This made the employer allegedly loose all that money.
And who was the alleged rabbi?
Deleteok anonymous,
ReplyDeletethat was an insurance job, only the boss gets the insurance money,
he had all his goods back as it was an insurance job, an insurance job is were you hide all your goods and claim they were stolen, get it.
the reason why he was helped my members in the community is due to Dayan SF who got the truth out of the boss that the worker DID NOT have the goods, when SF asked the boss so what is this all about the boss said i want money from the community then i will stop. so put that in your pipe
It would be extremely beneficial for us readers, were you to pick a language, any language, and write in that language only. Quite aside from being totally unintelligible, the bits of your rant that I've managed to piece together into something hardly bordering coherency, are factually incorrect.
DeleteI don't know any details of the incident you are so knowledgeable on. However, I'm sufficiently confident that no insurance company pays out £100k if they can wangle out of it. They will ensure the police make a careful and thorough investigation, and if there is any suspicion of foul play, the insurers will refuse the claim.
Oh' and the employer did press charges, against all Rabbonim he (the boss) lied to one of the Kretchnuffer rebbers to go ahead with his 2 signed statements, he is a moiser according to all poskim, but its ok to moiser for money even when its not true, but you must not moiser to save children s life's. welcome to the chareidi world
ReplyDeleteHow could the employer press charges against all rabbonim? I doubt that they were involved in setting up a fictitious mugging!
DeleteAnd how can you say he is a moiser accordibg to "all" poskim, when there are plenty who pasken that it is muttar?
