Police Bail of Chaim Halpern extended for another six weeks!

Chaim Halpern, who is under police investigation over alleged sexual assault and perverting the course of justice, was yesterday bailed to return in six weeks.

Three other men, who were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course in connection with Rabbi Halpern’s arrest, have also been asked to report to police in six weeks pending further inquiries.

The four men were arrested by Barnet police in February.

Det Con Alistair Woods, from the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: “The victim at the Menachem Mendel Levy’s case has shown a tremendous amount of courage to come forward and give a detailed account of the abuse she suffered by Levy.

“No one should suffer in silence - I would urge anyone who is a victim to come and speak to us and let us help you.

“Specially trained officers will support you, and thoroughly investigate your claims.

“This sentencing of Levy demonstrates that the courts will prosecute those who prey on vulnerable people, irrespective of their background or status.

Police will investigate any allegations made against anyone. If you have any further information please call 0208 733 5062 which is the number shown above.

We deal with any allegation with sensitivity however if you wish to remain anonymous please call 0800 555111.

    1. How much we're suffering!!!!! Did your mother drop you from the roof of the BT Tower when you where a baby?

The allegations being bandied about are that 30 women, some in their teenage years, have been horribly abused. Have you no empathy, no compassion, for these victims? Do you genuinely believe the entire world revolves around you alone?

Perhaps the Chief Inspector should issue you with an apology for your inconvenience and "suffering" whilst the police were trying to establish precisely what transpired and gather their evidence?

Your attitude is shocking, and your lack of middos appalling. Each time I think I've seen and heard it all, there's another ****** to show me that there is another and even deeper level to the sewerage system of the human race.

Before you hastily jump to conclusions perhaps consider the possibility that this commenter is directly affected by the saga. There are, as you say, rumoured to be 30 women affected but in addition to that there are dozens of people who put their faith in this man and feel utterly betrayed. He was almost a father figure to many... Then you have families that are split with some family members in each camp and the two sides barely talking to one another.

All of these people are suffering, albeit to very different degrees, and are desperately hoping for a swift end to the drama.

Perhaps you are showing a lack of compassion and understanding of the breadth of the "suffering".

    3. The allegations made, are extremely serious, serious for both the perpetrator and victims. Whilst it appears that you, Anonymous and undoubtedly other former/current supporters, never look beyond your navels or consider the feelings of others, at least the Police are thankfully taking this matter seriously and are trying to establish the veracity of these allegations.

How can you start to compare your situation to the victims’? The sense of betrayal, let alone the emotional & physical suffering, felt by 30 vulnerable women, women who may have been suffering various traumas and abuses, who were sent to a man – an “honourable and very respected” Rabbi – for counselling, by their own Rabbonim – many of whom had already heard complaints against him over the years yet continued to recommend him for counselling – only to end up being abused by him.

Compare that to the “betrayal & suffering” of a group of people who willingly formed a cult and deified its leader and his father, blindingly drinking-up his every posset and heartily swallowing his regurgitated dung, ever disparaging his critics, never questioning his speciousness nor querying his actions.

Yes, your world may well be in turmoil, with only yourselves to blame for placing your trust in such a person. Never-the-less you have my sympathies, but place everything into its correct perspective. Whether he will or won’t ultimately be charged is a question of having sufficient evidence to stand-up in a court of law. On an inter-personal basis, an appropriate quota of Rabbonim – from both sides of the fence – have been adequately satisfied that there is sufficient cause for concern to recommend that people cease any form of contact with. Whilst you have my sympathies, they fade into insignificance to my sympathies for the real victims.

  3. I HOPE THE POLICE READ THIS4 July 2013 at 10:51

Please forward this to Det Con Alistair Woods: If the police would like to get a message out to the public, it should not be off this blog.
Maybe you put signs up around the community or via post or in a local newspaper.
The police should address the community with an official statement in an efficient and clear manner.

    1. Why don't you call them on 0800 555111 you don't need to divulge your identity or any other details you think may lead them to identifying you.

  4. I think RCH should go for the sake of the community. I think he should retire from active Rabbonus and spend his days learning. His lack of sensitivity to the needs of the community show he is not fit to be amongst us. That is a hashkofa issue. I have no idea if he is guilty of any criminal conduct breaching UK law. The police have actually had more than long enough to charge him. The fact that they have not done so seems to indicate they do not have enough evidence on which to stand a reasonable chance of securing a criminal conviction. That does not mean for one moment that he is not guilty of all the things he stands accused of. It probably means that none of the ladies he was friendly with want to discuss their liaisons with him in a public forum such as a Crown Court. Without their evidence the Police are powerless to do anything. Hence Det Constable's words.
